Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen Video Glasses
Today let’s talk about video sunglasses – maybe the coolest electronic gadget I have come across in ages. If you have ever had to endure long tedious travel by plane, bus or even as a passenger in a car then you have got to give the Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen Video Glasses a try.
People that are used to traveling learn how to enjoy flying, including the time it takes and the delays it can involve when things don’t go so smoothly. On a recent flight the fellow sitting next to me was wearing what can only be described as high-tech, space age sunglasses. He had them plugged into his iPod and was completely oblivious to me and everything else going on around him.
Later as we descended I asked what they were. He explained they were widescreen video glasses and when plugged into an iPod it was the same effect as watching a 52-inch high definition television screen. he was kind enough to let me try them briefly and experience it for myself.
It’s difficult to describe but it was quite amazing. I got a short trailer for the video game Call of Duty and the experience was like being in my own personal movie theater. They were comfortable to wear, lightweight and you can plug in the attached earphones and completely cut out the outside world. It really was a great way to aleviate a long boring flight and quite an experience having big screen video right before my eyes.
I asked a few questions after I took them off. He told me that these were Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen Video Glasses, they cost about $200, and they work with video game systems, laptops, DVDs and all sorts of other portable devices. Pretty cool and now I own a pair myself – any time I want big screen video entertainment I pull out my High Definition Video eye wear and dissapear into my own private theatre.
I had no idea virtual reality glasses existed but I am now stocking up my iPod with all sorts of videos and no longer dread all those long horrid business trips.
Gadgets on Safari
We were set a challenge by the guys at africasky.co.uk to find some cool and useful gadgets that people could use and benefit from on their safari holidays.
After a brief trawl of the internet, we came across the above piece of video on youtube.com following a couple of likely lads reviewing the latest camping technologies.
In their report they include 5 great gadgets as follows:
1. The Gorilla Pod
2. Oregon Scientific Meteo Weather Forecast Watch
3. Solio Solar-Powered Battery Charger
4. Survival Kit in a Sardine Can
5. Oregan Scientific Action Cam.
Firstly, we thought, ‘great – job done!’ then we decided to be a bit daft and find some slightly wackier camping gadgets that would be fun, but completely unnecessary for African safari holidays.
Here follows our list:
1. The Beer Belly
2. Pen Fishing Rod
3. Handspresso Personal Portable Espresso Maker
4. Spot GPS Device
5. SensorfreshQ
The Beer Belly
Retailing at around £20, The Beer Belly is a useful piece of kit if you want to have a sneaky alcoholic beverage or if you just can’t be bothered to hold a cup in your hands. Particularly useful if running from a pride of Lions.
Hidden under your wares, this bag is strapped to your tummy. When filled with liquid it swells, giving you the appearance of having a beer belly. There is a tube that you can drink the liquid from and you can hide it in the sleeve of your khaki safari shirt so no-one can see you sipping!
Pen Fishing Rod
The best thing about the Pen Fishing Rod is that it is not even a pen! It is a fishing rod that (like a transistor radio aerial) can be extended to 4 feet and then retracted. This product though is not going to withstand the tugging and pulling of a Nile crocodile – so be careful where you fish.
Handspresso Personal Portable Espresso Maker
When feeling the call from the wild, you never know when the urge for a coffee may take you. Coffee…mmmm….Ideally you need to safari in Kenya to get the full effect. Never leave without means for making coffee.
Spot GPS Device
Always keep a handy supply of Spot GPS Devices to throw for wild beast to eat.It is always useful to know where animals that can eat you are hiding.
SensorfreshQ
Waste not want not - If you find some leftover meat from the big cats supper, why not test it to ensure it does not contain and bacteria not good fro human consumption. All good? Time to cook a Bar-B-Q!
